The Joint Action Committee, JAC, of Bauchi State tertiary institutions has rejected the state government’s November 2024 salary payment template.
The state JAC Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Ahmed, stated this at a news conference in the state.
Comrade Ahmed who criticized the government for alleged discrepancies in salary implementation and neglect of worker’s welfare stressed that its fail to align with the new National Minimum Wage as promised.
He described the current payment structure as unsatisfactory and a breach of prior agreements.
The JAC Chairman declared a two-week warning strike across all tertiary institutions under its jurisdiction effective from Monday 16 December 2024.
Comrade Ahmed stressed that the strike aims to pressure the government into addressing the committee’s grievances and ensuring fair treatment of its members.
“Institutions affected include Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology, Ningi Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere, Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare and A.D Rufa’i College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau” he added.
While urging the the government to initiate dialogue and meet its obligations under the National Minimum Wage Act, JAC noted that the affected institutions will remain closed throughout the strike period, warning that failure to resolve the issues after the warning strike could lead to an indefinite industrial action.
