Contract for the construction of a brand ultra-modern stadium in Bayelsa State will soon be awarded by the state government.
Commissioner for Sports, Daniel Igali who stated this while conducting top officials of the Ministry and Sports Journalists round the forty hectare land which is being cleared said the twenty-five thousand capacity new stadium located in the Igbogene axis of Yenagoa is expected to be completed in two years’ time.
According to the Commissioner for Sport Development, Daniel Igali, five companies had put in bids for the new stadium as the Bayelsa State government will be unveiling the successful contractor for the project by next week.
He stated that the new multipurpose stadium which is expected to be completed in 24 months would have a standard football pitch, two practice fields, swimming and diving pools, tennis and volleyball courts and eight halls for different sporting events, Video Assistant Referee, VAR facilities and a velodrome to enable the State host major sporting competitions including the 2028 National Sports Festival which it is bidding for.
In an interview, one of the contractors handling the clearing of the site for the new stadium, Mr. Ama-ebi Ebikpolade Stow, the Chief Executive Officer of Ama-ebi Consultants Limited gave an assurance that the clearing job would be completed by next week.
Also, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Grace Alagoa and the Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi commended the State Government led by Governor Douye Diri for initiating the new stadium project in the State capital, emphasizing that on completion, it would enable sports men and women in the State to have befitting facilities to train and actualize their dreams.
