Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Administration (FCTA), Nyesom Wike, has approved a study tour of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, as part of efforts to improve health insurance services in the Territory,
The FCT Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, made this known while addressing the delegation, in Abuja.
He urged the team to maximize the learning opportunity and bring back valuable insights that can be adapted to improve healthcare services in the FCT.
On her part, the leader of the delegation and Acting Director of the FCT Health Insurance Scheme, FHIS, Dr. Salamatu Belgore who said the goal of the team is to replicate or enhance best practices to strengthen health insurance in the FCT, noted that the agency had hosted similar visits from thirteen other state health insurance schemes.
Earlier, the Managing Director of ASHIA, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, welcomed the delegation and shared insights into Anambra’s innovative health insurance model.
He explained that the agency operates without third-party Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and has grown enrollment to over 200,000 beneficiaries despite initial financial challenges.
“Our financial model allows us to source and manage our own funds while the government handles staff salaries. It wasn’t easy initially, as funding was a major challenge, but we have achieved financial stability by growing our enrollment to over 200,000 beneficiaries,” he explained.
The four-day tour will include facility visits, operational briefings, plenary sessions, and hospital assessments.
