The FCT command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has called for proper regulation of Scraps markets known as Panteka across the territory to check and stop the activities of vandals and scavengers.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu made the called while parading five suspected vandals who were arrested alongside an intercepted truck loaded with scraps and vandalized items in Abuja.
He said regulation of the scraps markets would lead to the arrest of the buyers of the vandalized items thereby solving more than fifty percent of the problem.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant said the arrest of the five suspects and the interception of the truck were made possible by the combined team of the corps intelligence personnel and men of Critical National Assets and Infrastructures department while on a routine night patrol around the Dei-Dei axis of the FCT.
According to Odumosu, preliminary investigation has shown that the suspects were on their way to an Iron Melting Company situated in Sabon Wuse, Niger State.
Dr. Odumosu reiterating the commitment of NSCDC to making FCT a no-go area for vandals, scavengers and hoodlums sleeping under the bridge and causing havoc at night.
Items recovered from the impounded truck, included, Manhole covers, Iron pipe protector from bridge shoulder, Communication Mast accessories and drainage covers among others.
