The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ monitoring team for the National Grid Installation located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State have come under a heavy attack by the deadly Boko Haram terrorist group.
The incident occurred when the convoy of the special monitoring squad comprising of 80 personnels drawn from the Commandant General Special Intelligence Squad, as well as FCT and Kaduna State Commands were ambushed at Farin- Kasa Area of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A statement by National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC Babawale Afolabi says the officers were attacked while crossing from the Shiroro axis after the surveillance and monitoring oversight of the installations.
According to the statement unknown to the security operatives over 200 dreaded armed boko haram elements had laid ambushed on a vengeful mission against them from the top of a hill located at Farin-Kasa.
The statement explains that the criminals opened fire upon sighting the long convoy of the NSCDC monitoring team using different sophisticated weapons.
However, combined NSCDC operatives were able to repelled the attack and successfully neutralized over 50 of the terrorist in the crossfire.
As at the time of filling this report, about 7 operatives of the NSCDC are currently missing in action as efforts are on to locate them in the bush, while a few others who sustained various degrees of Injuries are receiving medical treatment in a Medical facility.
In the meantime, the Commandant General of NSCDC Dr. Ahmed Audi has described the attack on NSCDC personnel as callous, unfortunate and as an attack to the nation.
He reiterated the Corps commitment to safeguarding all critical national assets and Infrastructure.
It will be recall that the nation experienced a total blackout recently due to the collapse of the National Grid as a result of incessant attack on the facilities by bandits.
