Nigeria’s drive to reform its solid minerals sector is gaining international attention as the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has been honoured in the United States for outstanding public service.
At a special awards event hosted by Africa Leadership Magazine at the City University of New York, Dr. Alake received the Public Service Excellence Award for his reforms in Nigeria’s mining sector.
According to the statement, the House of Representatives of South Carolina also presented the minister with a Certificate of Recognition, praising his contributions to Nigerian democracy, governance, and economic development.

The statement describes him as a reformer with a four decade long record in public Service with background as a journalist, media strategist, and political advisor.
According to the statement, speaking after receiving the honours, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Alake says Nigeria is opening a new chapter in solid minerals — introducing digital monitoring, launching special Mining Marshals to tackle illegal mining, and prioritising value addition to stop the export of raw minerals.
It highlights the formation of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, following Nigeria’s lead at a high-level global forum in Riyadh earlier this year — with Alake now serving as the group’s first chairman.
The statement calls on global investors to support Africa’s mining renaissance adding that the continent is ready for responsible, transparent, and profitable partnerships.
