In an effort to mitigate apron-related incidents during the festive season, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has undertaken a comprehensive revalidation program for aircraft marshallers.
The initiative, spearheaded by FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, was conducted in collaboration with F.C.I International, Centre of Technical Development.
The program, which revalidated the competencies of over 200 marshallers across various airports in the country, aimed to strengthen compliance with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s, NCAA, advisory circular on Airside Safety Management.
In a statement by the agency, participants were trained to enhance their ability to safely guide aircraft during ground movement and taxiing operations.
Speaking during one of the training sessions at Port Harcourt International Airport, FAAN’s Director of Human Resources, Dr. Emiola Luqman, noted that the management is committed to bridging technical training gaps to ensure safe and secure air transport services during the Yuletide and beyond.
The coordinator of the training, Mr. Fortune Idu, revealed that, the training went beyond traditional marshalling signals, incorporating an assessment of apron-related hazards and a review of standard operating procedures.
The training also introduced a new logging system aimed at boosting efficiency and safety for marshallers.
