The Police Operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad of Anambra state have arrested one Chidi Ekwesiri and two others over cult related-activities.
Ekwesiri, aged fifty, hailed from Umunya in Oyi local government area of the state.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations officer of the command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga says one automatic pump action gun and a Police uniform was also recovered from the suspects.
The statement explains that the Operatives spotted the suspect while on surveillance patrol along the Onitsha – Enugu Expressway by Unizik Temp Site.
It points out that during interrogations, the suspect claimed to be a Sergeant and a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos but later denied his earlier claim.
According to the statement, the suspect also confessed that the gun was given to him by a yet to be identified man at Ukpo, stressing that information from the suspect led to the arrest of two other suspects who were currently undergoing Police interrogation.
The statement says the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Itam has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
It adds that the suspects will be arraigned in Court on the conclusion of the investigations.
