The Yobe State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested 45 drug traffickers and seized 537.808 kilograms of suspected illicit substances in the State.
Displaying the confiscated drugs to journalists in Damaturu the State Capital, the NDLEA State Commander, Abdulazeez Ogungboye, stated that the seized substances include 396.526kg of Cannabis and 141.282kg of psychotropic substances.
Highlighting the significant successes recorded in 2024 on the fight against drug abuse, Mr Ogungboye explained that the command has charged 46 drug offenders, secured 21 convictions, and currently has 85 cases pending at the Federal High Court in Damaturu.
He revealed that the NDLEA has established a mini rehabilitation center to provide support and care for individuals struggling with drug addiction.
The agency noted that some drug-dependent individuals have successfully completed a three-month rehabilitation program at separate intervals and have been discharged and reunited with their families.
The NDLEA Boss noted that the Command remains committed to combating drug trafficking and abuse within the State.
