National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, has arrested eight hundred suspects of various drug related offences between January to December 2024 in Zamfara state.
Public Safety Officer in charge of Drugs Demand Reduction unit of the agency in the state Mr. Sani Sa’idu stated this while speaking with newsmen in Gusau.
He said that some of the suspects are operating within the state while others were apprehended with contraband substances trying to cross to the neighboring states.
According to him, out of one hundred and seventy four suspects that were prosecuted by the agency, forty nine were convicted.
Sani explained that lack of rehabilitation center is the major challenge of NDLEA in Zamfara state, which leads to moving of drugs addicts arrested by the agency to Sokoto, Kebbi and Katsina states for rehabilitation.
According to him, most criminal activities including banditry and Kidnappings are perpetrated with influence of drugs.
