The Speaker House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas has called for prioritization of non-kinetic measures in the fight against terrorism and insecurity confronting the nation.
Dr. Abbas made the call during a workshop on “strategies for advancing non-kinetic approaches in tackling insecurity” organized by the House of Representatives in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Abuja.
Dr. Abbas who stressed the need for community policing, noted that building of trust and empowerment of the citizens was critical to addressing insecurity challenges.
According to Dr. Abbas diplomatic dialogue, economic empowerment, psychological interventions and community-based initiatives has fostered peaceful coexistence and Socio-economic stability in many countries
In a welcome address, the Resident Representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, KAS, Mrs. Marija Peran, attributed poverty, unemployment and inequality as fertile grounds that breed insecurity
Mrs. Peran who stressed the need for Legislative interventions in policies and Programmes of the government, called for quality education and sensitization of the citizens for peaceful coexistence.
She also stressed for the strengthening of institutions to promote transparency and accountability to achieve the desired Socio-economic development.
