The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, FCT Command has apprehended six suspects involved in vandalizing public infrastructure during its end-of-year security operations.
The arrests, made across various locations in the FCT, were part of the Command’s efforts to ensure the safety of lives and the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure during the festive period.
While parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, commended the dedication and vigilance of his personnel in fulfilling the Corps’ mandate.
He condemned the acts of vandalism, emphasizing it detrimental impact on the FCT’s infrastructure and services.
“It is unfortunate that these criminal elements are sabotaging public amenities provided for residents of the FCT. However, the NSCDC remains resolute in protecting critical infrastructure and bringing these offenders to justice,” Odumosu stated.
The Commandant reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to eradicating vandalism and other criminal activities, warning perpetrators to desist or face the full weight of the law.
Dr. Odumosu urged FCT residents to collaborate with the NSCDC by providing timely and actionable information to aid the fight against vandalism and crime.
The arrested suspects are currently under investigation and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Items recovered from the suspects were a streetlight pole cut into two pieces, three streetlight bulbs,
one halogen security light, two streetlight pole bases and a 24 perimeter fencing iron hooks.
Others included, one cut steel bar, nine shovels, three pliers, two spanners and screwdrivers, National ID card and two passport photographs belonging to one of the suspects, Kabiru Sani and cash totaling ₦13,200
