The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kwara state command has intercepted two point six tons of hard drugs and arrested nine hundred and twenty nine suspects between January and December this year.
The Commander of NDLEA in Kwara state, Fatima Popoola stated this while briefing newsmen on the achievement of the command in Ilorin.
According to her during a rapid operation of drug joint, the command has also arrested one hundred and eighty five drunk users who were counsel at the drug demand reduction unit and reintegrated with their family members.
The NDLEA boss noted that twenty-two clients were admitted into the command rehabilitation facility in addition to seventeen others who are non -residential coming from their homes for counselling during the period under review.
Mrs Popoola maintained that the legal services unit has also secured one hundred and thirty three conviction at the federal high court,with fourteen vehicles and twelve Motorcycles used in the commission of crime and money forfeited to the federal government.
She said the command in collaboration with the state government had commenced the implementation of the drug testing policy on two hundred and sixty one fresh students of Kwara state University, the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Student Affairs.
The NDLEA Commander advised parents and guardians to have interest in the activities of their children to prevent them from joining bad gang.
Mrs Popoola urged the state government to support the command with additional operational vehicles as well as the completion of it’s rehabilitation centre to make their work easier.
She appealed to the general public to assist the command with information on the activities of drug traffickers to enable them succeed.
