The New Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu has assumed office with a promise to push for a review of the laws establishing the Commission for effective service delivery.
At the handover in Abuja, Professor Ribadu said he would work with management and staff of the commission to improve the productivity of workers by prioritising the training and welfare of staff.
On funding, he pledged to strengthen partnerships with international organizations and donor agencies to maximize funding opportunities.
”We will build strong partnerships with international organisations and donor agencies, create a centralised platform for managing and tracking external support and ensure its effective utilisation. We will work towards digitalizing the activities of the commission for easy operations, transparency, accessibility, and ease of doing business,”
Professor Ribadu stated that a comprehensive needs assessment was necessary to guide resource allocation.
The outgone Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, said the appointment of Professor Ribadu was critical at the moment the Nigerian University System needed an innovative and transformative leadership to surmount the various challenges facing it.
Mr. Maiyaki called on staff of the Commission to support the new Executive Secretary to deliver on his mandate.
