The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, has approved the appointment of Professor Aisha Maikudi as the 7th Substantive Vice-chancellor of the University.
The appointment was announced during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of Council in Abuja.
The appointment takes effect from 1st January 2025, and it is for a non-renewable tenure of five years.
A statement by the Acting Director, Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob explains that Professor Maikudi emerged as the best among 10 shortlisted candidates and interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the University, in line with the extant regulations governing the process.
According to the statement, prior to her appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Maikudi served in an acting capacity from 5th July, 2024.
Meanwhile, reports say the external Governing Council Members of the University boycotted a meeting with the Chairman of the Governing Council, Retired Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Kaita, alleging that due process was not followed in the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor.
