National Youths Corps Members serving across the nation have been advised not to engage in any form of activity capable of tarnishing the image of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, scheme.
The Coordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang gave the advice at the closing of the 2024 Batch “C” Stream Two Orientation course held at NYSC temporary Orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos
She said that through the commitment and selfless services Youths Corps Members had rendered in various sectors of the economy over the years, the NYSC management would not condone any form of misconduct from Corps members which were capable of undermining the efforts of the scheme or its reputation.
Addressing the Corps members specifically on their posting to their primary places of assignments, Mrs. Salmwang urged the Corps members to take their posting to various communities across Lagos State in good faith.
She gave the assurance that the prospective employers of the Corps members in Lagos State had been engaged by the scheme through various workshops, seminars and routine monitoring visits to their organizations to ensure that the welfare of the Corps members was guaranteed.
She stressed that the NYSC management had also engaged employers of Corps members on the need to provide a conducive working environment for Corps members posted to their organizations.
Mrs. Salmwang therefore, urged the Corps members to take whatever task they were given at their primary places of assignments seriously so as to impart their host communities positively.
She however, warned them against embarking on unnecessary or unauthorized journeys out of Lagos State.
She urged them to obtain permission through proper channels if they must travel out of the state.
In a message to the event, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu appealed to the Corps members to actively engage with the local communities where they would be serving so as to identify their challenges with the aim of addressing them.
Governor Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu also advised the Corps members to contribute to meaningful projects in their host communities.
He admonished them to exemplify the lessons of discipline, perseverance and teamwork that they had imbibed during their training in the camp.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of Commendation letters to some Corps Members and NYSC staff that performed well during the three weeks orientation course.
