The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called for increased investment in capacity building to boost Nigeria’s economy and promote brain circulation.
She stated this this when she hosted a delegation from California led by the
Secretary of California State Transportation Agency, CalSTA, Dr. Toks Omishakin, in Abuja.
Mrs Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of skill development and knowledge transfer in improving efficiency and productivity, particularly in the transportation sector, aligning with President Tinubu’s trillion-dollar economy vision.
The NiDCOM Chairman described the collaboration as a step toward fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and its diaspora in California, assuring continued partnership with key stakeholders.
Earlier, the Secretary of California State Transportation Agency, CalSTA, Dr. Toks Omishakin,
stressed the need for collaboration between California and Nigeria to address air pollution challenges caused by transport activities, which significantly impact public health.
He noted that these challenges could be tackle through infrastructure and economic development, as well as knowledge sharing.
He also expressed interest in green energy, technology, and training partnerships with Nigerian institutions like the University of Lagos to promote advanced education and climate action.
Additionally, CalSTA unveiled plans to invest in viable Nigerian states and support local climate action efforts.
Another member of the Delegation, Dr. Aditya Ramji, underscored the importance of training Master’s and PhD students to tackle Nigeria’s transportation challenges.
