The Federal Government has commended the Republic of Ghana for reconstructing and officially handing over a building belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.
This is contained in a statement by the acting Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa in Abuja.
According to the statement, the handover, conducted by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, marks the resolution of a diplomatic incident that began with the controversial demolition of the property by Ghanaian authorities.
“The demolition had drawn strong condemnation from Nigeria, leading to a series of high-level discussions. As a result, Ghana’s government committed to rebuilding the block of four-bedroom flats to address Nigeria’s concerns.
Representing Nigeria at the ceremony, the Director of the Foreign Service Academy in Lagos, Ambassador Chimezie Ogu, received the keys to the building on behalf of the Nigerian government.
According to the statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses appreciation for Ghana’s gesture, which it described as a symbol of cooperation and a reaffirmation of the close relationship between the two West African neighbours.
