The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has appealed to travellers to avoid night journey especially during the Yuletide with high volume of vehicular movement.
The FCT Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Muta’a Chorie while addressing news men in Abuja on the commencement of a Thirty days Special Operation said Most recent fatal accidents in the territory occured at night.
Mr Chorie said the Twenty Unit Commands in FCT commenced Inter Joint Operations four days ahead to ensure smooth take off of the End of the year Nationwide Special Operations.
According to the sector commander, FRSC is working with the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the safety of personnel deployed for the late hours patrol.
He said already not less than Two Thousand regular and special Marshals have been deployed to ensure free flow of traffic in the Six area councils while additional logistics also mobilized to some identified high volume traffic corridors.
“We have deployed over Two Thousand regular and special Marshals, 44 patrol vehicles, 5 tow trucks, 12 ambulances for the End of the year special operations “
He said road camps have been activated to enable personnel deployed for the exercise sleep at night for emergency responses in addition to the already trainned community volunteers for prompt support during accident.
The FCT FRSC Boss however appealed to motorists to drive with caution at some routes where road constructions were being carried out especially Bwari road as additional tow trucks and personnel have been deployed for prompt removal of break down vehicles.
He assured that no traffic offenders would go unpunished as mobile courts would sit at five locations across the territory to prosecute violators.
He passionately appealed to motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid overloading, overspeeding and dangerous driving as the corps was ready to ensure the safety of all road users during the Yuletide.
