The Kebbi State Government has handed over the last batch of 1,200 25kg bags of rice to the Christian community to observe the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu presented the food items to the Executive members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led by the state Chairman, Reverend Ayuba Kanta.
He said the government had distributed hundreds of bags of rice to the Christian Elders, Widows of fallen Army and Police personnel, Igbo Community, Correctional Service and Christians domiciled in Zuru Emirate which has the highest concentration of adherents of Christianity in Kebbi.
“The distribution was done in four batches, the final this Wednesday is presented to the CAN Chairman for onward distribution to other Christians”.
The Commissioner noted that, such a kind gesture by Governor Nasir Idris was a demonstration of his characteristics as a compassionate and benevolent leader with fatherly care for his people irrespective of political or religious inclination.
Receiving the consignment of rice, Kebbi CAN Chairman, Reverend Ayuba Kanta, expressed immense appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for his magnanimity to the Christian community in the state.
Reverend Kanta, stated that, Governor Nasir Idris, has made Christians in Kebbi very happy this festive season saying, we shall continue to support and pray for his success and wisdom as he steers the affairs of the state to fruition and prosperity.
While pledging their unflinching support to Governor Idris, the CAN Chairman said the religious body would use its template of sharing commodities amongst its members and would enforce it to make sure every Christian fully enjoy the rice throughout the state.
