House owners in Lagos State have been asked to be considerate in charging house rents whenever Corps members approach them for accommodation.
The Lagos State Coordinator, National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang made the plea at the closing of the 2024 Batch “C” Stream One Orientation Course held at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
She stressed that this will go a long way at assisting the Corps members to have affordable accomodation while undergoing their one year mandatory service to the nation.
She explained that there were cases when Corps members found it difficult to get affordable accomodation in areas close to their primary places of assignments due to high cost of house rent.
She stressed that Corps members often undergo this challenge in cases where their employers could not provide accomodations for them .
The NYSC boss in Lagos state noted that the inability of some Corps members to get accomodations on time during the service year was one of the reasons some Corps members found it difficult to settle down on time and get down to work at their primary places of assignments.
Mrs. Salmwang however, appealed to house owners in Lagos State to be considerate whenever Corps members approach them for accomodation by offering them affordable house rent.
On the issue of keeping safe throughout their service year, Mrs. Salmwang advised the Corps members to avoid asking strangers for favour and divulging their personal information to people they did not know.
She also urged the Corps members to be vigilant at all times, be disciplined and avoid immoral life style.
In a message to the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu advised Corps members to take their posting to any part of Lagos State with open mind and sense of purpose.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Mr. Sanwo-Olu urged the Corps members to support government in propagating its laudable policies in the interest of the people of Lagos State.
Awards were later presented to some officials of NYSC, non-officials and some Corps members for their outstanding performance during the orientation course.
