There were heated arguments in the floor of the house of representatives following the defection of a member from the Labor Party to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The defected member representing Jos South Jos East Federal Constituency of Plateau State Mr. Alfred Iliya, defection letter was read by the Speaker House of Representatives Dr Tajudeen Abbas.
After the Speaker announced the defection of Mr. Alfred Iliya, the opposition lawmakers argued that the constitutional provisions for defection were not met by the defected member.
According to the opposition members, there was no division in Labour Party as pointed by the defected member in his letter.
While the majority APC members insisted that the defected member fulfilled the requirements for defection.
The APC members in their arguments said it was a known fact to every Nigerian that there are factions and crises in Labour Party.
In the past one week, seven opposition members of the House of Representatives have defected to the All Progressives Congress APC.
Out of these seven members, six were from the Labour Party, while one was from People’s Democratic Party PDP.
