Patience and loyalty has been described as the most important virtue of public service.
The Executive Secretary Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative NEITI, Dr Ogbonnaya Orji, made the remark during an event in his honor by the Nzuko Arochukwu cultural group in Abuja.
Dr Orji explained that the public service is a learning process, where staff learn about dedication, sacrifice perseverance and honour.
He advised civil servants in the country to embrace self improvement as well as passion for competence and integrity.
“I’m not saying you musn’t be qualified, I’m not saying you musn’t have education. But if you have all these and you are not patient, you are not loyal to constituted authority, you are not dedicated, you are not very observant to the rules and regulations, and you are not prepared to grow with time, you will come in you will go out.
Orji expressed appreciation to the cultural group for finding him worthy of the honour and pledged to consider it as a challenge to do more to his community.
The President Nzuko Arochukwu culture group, Abuja Branch, Mazi Samuel Ogundu, said the honour was an award of excellence on Dr Ogbonnaya Orji for community and National service.
