The Police Command in Anambra state has Confirned that twenty-two people lost their lives in the stampede that took place in Okija, Ihiala Local Government area.
The Commissioner of Police, Obono Nnaghe made this known shortly after visiting some of the victims who were receiving medical care at the hospital.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga says the Commissioner while commiserating with family and friends of the deceased, wished the injured a quick recovery.
It notes that investigation into the unfortunate incident is still ongoing stressing that the Police Command remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents of Anambra State on crime prevention, promptly response and effective to emergencies, Protecting vulnerable populations and Foster a sense of security and community.
