The Nigerian Customs Service says it has received five hundred and seventy three thousand, five hundred and nineteen applications for three thousand, nine hundred and twenty seven vacancies with four invalid applications for Inspectors cadre in its Recruitment process which started last December.
Breaking the figures down, a total of two hundred and forty nine thousand, two hundred and eighteen applications were for General Duty under the Superintendent cadre while two hundred and eighty seven thousand, seven hundred and twenty two persons applied for Support Staff cadre under Superintendent positions.
One hundred and fifteen thousand, six hundred and thirty four persons applied for General Duty under Inspector cadre as twelve thousand, nine hundred and fifty two people applied for Support Staff under Customs Assistant cadre while one hundred and fifty three thousand, five hundred and ninety three people applied for Support Staff.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Assistant Comptroller Mai Wada, in Abuja.
The statement explains that the massive response to the recruitment exercise was not expected but the Service was able to manage the process efficiently by accommodating all the Applicants.
It notes that the Service experienced server downtime due to the number of entries, coupled with other Customs responsibilities like revenue generation hence resorting to twenty four hours operation for optimal service delivery.
The statement warns Nigerians not to fall prey to scammers but to steer clear from fraudsters, emphasizing that Customs recruitment is free, fair and credible hence no payment from anyone to anybody as the organisation will never request payment of any kind for its recruitment exercise.
