President Bola Tinubu has attributed the recent mishaps that claimed the lives of 65 Nigerians in Abuja, Ibadan, Anambra States to indiscipline.
In a media chat in Lagos, the President commended the will to provide one’s surplus to the needy, but cautioned that alms be given in an organised manner and in accordance with the amount of the charity at hand.
“It is a very serious to lose loved ones, but are we looking at it from the organisers point of view, or are you looking at it from the goodwill gesture of the people trying to give out whatever they have as extra. It is very sad that people are not well organized”, the President lamented.
The President recalled how organised his philanthropic gestures went smoothly in the past 25 years, and called on givers to avoid inviting people when they had not got enough to offer.
While revisiting the calls urging him to implement the fuel subsidy removal in phases, the President that would have made the situation even worse.
“It part of the fear that is unnecessary, phasesd? No matter how you cut it, or you slice it in segments, you still have to meet the bills. So cut your coat, strictly to your size. We have no choice but to pull the handbrake, otherwise we are heading for slippery slopes that could result in financial disaster”, he stressed.
He said he had no regrets for removing the subsidy, stressing that it is necessary to safeguard the future of succeeding generations.
