President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after his official visit to France on the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron and South Africa, where he attended the 11th Session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, BNC.
While in France, President Bola Tinubu affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing co-operation in food security, energy, solid minerals, education, and defense.
In South Africa, President Tinubu sought South Africa’s backing for Nigeria’s bid to attain full membership in the G20, BRICS, and the BRICS New Development Bank, NDB.
He also sought South Africa’s support for Nigeria to assume leadership roles in thematic discussions of interest under South Africa’s G20 Presidency.
He equally called for the Nigeria-South Africa Strategic Partnership to become a model of leadership, economic integration, and shared prosperity for the African Continent.
On the sidelines of the event, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that tourists from Nigeria could now apply for a visa without submitting a passport.
The two countries agreed to urgently finalise the five-year-old Memorandum of Understanding on the Early Warning Mechanism, which monitors threats of violence, acts of criminality, and reprisals involving nationals of both countries.
They also operationalised the Joint Ministerial Advisory Council on Industry, Trade, and Investment to enhance economic co-operation between the two leading African economies.
