Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has reiterated the federal government’s dedication to advancing mechanized farming and implementing programmes to mitigate climate change impacts for sustainable economic development.
He made this known at the launch of relief material distribution to over 2,000 households affected by floods in five Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State during the 2024 rainy season.
During his one-day working visit to Nasarawa State, Shettima participated in various activities, including distributing tractors and rice seedlings to local government chairmen and traditional rulers.
He emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to policies designed to enhance citizens’ living standards nationwide, irrespective of diverse backgrounds.
The Vice President encouraged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the federal government’s genuine commitment to economic reform programmes and to focus on positive outcomes for a better nation.
He also urged the Nasarawa State Government to remain steadfast in implementing policies that promote peaceful coexistence and economic empowerment.
On his part, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state, noted that the state government is transitioning from subsistence farming to inclusive agriculture, aligning with the federal government’s food production program.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting women and youth, enabling their active participation in agriculture.
Also, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Non-Governmental Organizations, Ms. Margaret Elayo, highlighted that the beneficiary households were identified based on a fact-finding committee’s report, which assessed communities affected by the 2024 rainy season floods in five local government areas of Toto, Nasarawa, Awe, Doma and Lafia.
Highlight of the event was the Vice President presided over the graduation ceremony of more than 1,800 individuals from the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Institute in Lafia during his visit.
