The Federal Government has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for pregnant women and new mothers.
National Coordinator of the program Muntaka Umar represented by Dr. Ashiru Abubakar, said the Federal Government is committed to tackling maternal mortality, which is a key objective of the President Ahmad Bola Tinubu-led administration.
He said the initiative is a response to the staggering statistics on maternal mortality in Nigeria.
“Addressing maternal mortality is among the key objectives of this administration, and we are collaborating with all necessary stakeholders to crush down the menace of maternal mortality,” Dr. Abubakar emphasized.
He noted that the Federal Government’s initiative is a step in the right direction, and stakeholders must work together to ensure its success.
On his part, the Kano state Commissioner for Health Dr. Abubakar Yusuf noted that the state has made significant progress in reducing maternal mortality since the current administration took office.
“We have introduced free maternal care, coupled with community surveillance on family planning, which has yielded positive results,” Dr. Yusuf said.
He reassured the Commitment of Kano State Government in Collaborating with the federal government and other development partners with a view to addressing the challenge of maternal Mortality.
The Maternal And Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative, convened by the Federal Ministry of Health, brings together stakeholders from various development partners, state governments, and local communities to brainstorm modalities for ensuring the success of the program.
The event was graced by stakeholders from different part’s of the country.
