Two hundred primary healthcare facilities are to be remodeled across the one hundred and eighty four Wards in Abia state within one hundred days.
Governor Alex Otti stated at the flag off projects in the Primary Healthcare Centre, Ngwu, Uzuakaoli in Bende Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor noted that the essence of the remodeling was to improve access to quality healthcare, especially in the rural communities, reduce exposure to quacks, fake drugs and longevity for the general populace.
Governor Otti explained that the primary healthcare facilities would have its independent power supply from renewable energy sources, efficient water supply system, and other support infrastructure to improve the operational environment, preserve drug supplies and medical consumables.

He maintained that the facilities when completed would improve maternal care, child birth management records and first level care to anyone who needs medical assistance on a round-the-clock basis and encouraged community leaders and other stakeholders to be part of the project monitoring.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche disclosed that the government is investing about ten point seven Billon naira for the project and described the services of the healthcare centres as the third objective of SDGs.
In his presentation, the chairman of Bende LGA, Deacon Uwabunkeonye Bassey applauded the Governor for the project stressing that it will reduce the high maternal mortality rate in Bende LGA.
