Zamfara State Ministry of Health has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, to provide free Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics care for pregnant women in the state.
The State Commissioner of Health Dr. Nafisa Maradun shortly after signing the MOU said the participating hospitals are Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Gusau, General Hospital Tsafe, General Hospital Maru, and General Hospital Kaura

She explained that, others include General Hospital Gummi, Shinkafi General and general Hospital Maradun.
Dr Nafisa Maradun pointed out that, expanding access to quality healthcare in the mentioned facilities would significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates among Pregnant women in the state.
The commissioner commended the National Health Insurance Authority efforts in improving the state’s health sector and pledged total support and collaboration for the success of the program in Zamfara State.
The NHIA coordinator Mr Mannir Sanusi reiterated that, the intervention intends to reduce maternal and child mortality in the state.
He said among the complications to be taken care of include pre eclampsia/hemorrhage, prolonged labor, obstructed labor and Caesarian Section.
