Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed regret over his involvement in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the country’s current situation has worsened compared to the period before the party came to power in 2015.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja alongside other opposition figures, Atiku said the 2014 coalition that birthed the APC was driven by concerns over insecurity, economic instability, and what he described as weakening democratic governance under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, while the alliance was formed with the intention of correcting national challenges, present realities show that the problems have deepened rather than improved.
He stressed that ongoing consultations among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections must focus on rebuilding democratic institutions and restoring public confidence in governance.
The briefing, attended by key opposition stakeholders, is seen as part of broader political realignments as parties begin early preparations for 2027.
