A former Minister of State for Education under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Nwajiuba, a two-time member of the House of Representatives, said Nigeria’s current challenges require leadership driven by sound policies, effective negotiation skills and strong grassroots political engagement rather than political rhetoric.
In a statement released by his office, the former minister said his experience across the legislature, the executive arm of government and key national institutions has equipped him with a strong understanding of governance, public finance and policy formulation.
He said his campaign will focus on education reform, economic stabilisation and the restoration of public confidence in government institutions, which he described as critical to national development.
The statement noted that Nwajiuba, a lawyer and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, is entering the race with what he termed a “competence-first” approach to leadership.
According to him, experience, policy depth and institutional knowledge must form the foundation of national governance.
Nwajiuba’s entry into the presidential race on the platform of the ADC adds a new dimension to the 2027 political contest, as smaller political parties continue to position themselves as alternative leadership platforms.
Political observers say his declaration joins a growing list of aspirants shaping the national conversation ahead of the next general election, as debates around competence, experience and inclusive governance gain momentum.
