The Federal Government has announced plans to reward outstanding teachers during the Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, as part of efforts to reposition the teaching profession in the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Folasade Boriowo in Abuja
According to the statement, the Summit will hold from January 27 to 28, 2026, and will serve as a platform to recognise and celebrate exceptional teachers nationwide.
Awards will be presented to Best Performing Teachers across the six geopolitical zones, as well as the Overall Best Performing Teacher in Nigeria.
The Summit, themed “Empowering Teachers, Strengthening the System: A National Agenda for Education Transformation and Sustainability,” will bring together teachers, policymakers, education administrators, legislators, development partners and other stakeholders.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony scheduled to hold at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.
The programme will also feature remarks by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and other senior officials.
The statement added that the Summit will witness the launch of the Edurevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal to enhance continuous learning and career development for teachers.
Activities will continue on January 28 at the National Universities Commission Hall, culminating in the adoption of a communiqué to guide future teacher-focused policies and reforms.
