The Deputy Governor of Abia State and Chairman of the National Steering Committee on Membership Revalidation and E-registration of the Labour Party, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has presented the committee’s progress report to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), highlighting significant gains recorded since the exercise commenced in December.

Speaking at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the Deputy Governor conveyed the goodwill of the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, who he said was unavoidably absent.
Addressing party leaders, stakeholders, and members of the press, he commended members of the steering committee for their dedication and resilience, noting that the revalidation and new registration exercise forms a critical component of the party’s institutional strengthening process.
According to him, the committee has recorded millions of registrations nationwide within a short period, with the electronic registration process still ongoing.
He emphasized that the exercise is designed to build a credible, transparent, and verifiable membership database that will support internal democracy and strategic planning ahead of future elections.
“Our e-registration remains ongoing, and we encourage Nigerians to key into the Labour Party. This process is about rebuilding structures and consolidating our membership base across the country,” he stated.
The Deputy Governor positioned the revalidation exercise as part of broader party reforms aimed at strengthening governance capacity and policy credibility.
He referenced developments in Abia State, where he said the Labour Party administration has demonstrated that campaign promises can translate into measurable governance outcomes.
“Since 1999, Nigerians have often heard promises. What we are demonstrating in Abia is that governance can move beyond rhetoric to practical delivery. Nigeria can work,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support during the party’s recent legal challenges and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusive participation and democratic consolidation.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the Deputy Governor stated that the Labour Party’s strategy is to expand its political footprint across states, the National Assembly, and state legislatures through structured membership growth and policy-driven engagement.
He called on stakeholders to collaborate in building what he described as “a Labour Party for all Nigerians,” anchored on transparency, accountability, and sustainable governance.
The presentation formed part of the party’s ongoing efforts to reposition itself institutionally and electorally at the national level.
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nanadi Usman, has assured party faithful and Nigerians of the leadership’s commitment to strengthening the party and repositioning it for greater national impact.
Speaking at an event held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Senator Usman described the gathering as significant, noting that it was the first major event at the secretariat since the Supreme Court judgment of April 4 last year.
“This is the day the Lord has made; we shall rejoice and be glad in it,” she said, expressing gratitude to God and party supporters for their patience throughout the party’s recent legal processes.
She acknowledged that what was expected to be a smooth transition took longer than anticipated but emphasized that patience and perseverance had prevailed.
“We will do the right thing at the right time. Our goal is to develop this party, make it a great platform, and give it the strength and recognition it rightfully deserves,” she stated.

The National Chairman commended the Deputy Governor of Abia State, who also serves as Chairman of the National Steering Committee on Party Membership Revalidation and E-registration, for the work done since the committee’s inauguration in December.
According to her, while the committee had consistently briefed the leadership on progress made, it was necessary to inform the public and the media about the steps being taken to reposition the party.
Senator Usman also expressed appreciation to party faithful and supporters across the country for their prayers, encouragement, and steadfast support, assuring them that the leadership would not disappoint.
Addressing reports of alleged disagreements within the party and with labour leaders, the National Chairman dismissed such claims as unfounded.
She recalled that on January 24, the party held a special celebration at the Abia State Government Lodge in Umuahia, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other labour leaders.
“If there were any quarrel or division, we would not have gathered together at such an event. Our presence there clearly demonstrates that there is no hostility,” she said.

She emphasized that the Labour Party maintains relationships built on dialogue, mutual respect, and shared objectives, adding that any contrary narrative does not reflect the reality of engagements between the party and labour stakeholders.
“We are not quarrelling. We remain united in purpose,” she affirmed.
The event featured remarks from party leaders and members of the National Steering Committee, as well as interactions with members of the press.
