The Nation’s Capital is gearing up for an unforgettable end-of-year celebration as preparations hit top gear for this year’s “Groovy December.
The event, described as the first of its kind in Abuja, will feature over 35 exciting activities cutting across entertainment, tourism, culture, and lifestyle.

Speaking during a news conference in Abuja, the Coordinator Emerging Abuja Projects, Dr. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu explained that Groovy December represents a major milestone in the FCTA’s ongoing
“Emerging Abuja” rebranding initiative a program aimed at transforming the city into a vibrant tourism, culture, and entertainment hub for Nigerians and the global community”
“The FCT Minister has provided an enabling environment for tourism, culture, and entertainment to thrive. The approval to host Groovy December and the broader Imagine Abuja vision shows that Abuja is ready to take its place as Africa’s new capital for leisure and creativity,” Dr. Ibe-Kalu said.
According to him, the event is already attracting interest from Nigerians in the diaspora, with over 45 coordinators across Europe and America mobilizing attendees who plan to return home for the celebration.
“Many Nigerians abroad some who haven’t been home in over 20 or 30 years are eager to visit Abuja this December. Groovy December will be their homecoming experience, showcasing the best of our culture, music, and hospitality” He noted.
“To ensure visitors enjoy the city to the fullest, Groovy December has secured partnerships with key players in Abuja’s hospitality industry. Participating hotels will offer 25% to 50% discounts for registered guests during the period, while restaurants, tour operators, and entertainment venues are also offering special packages”
He stressed that hotel occupancy will rise to about 70% during the event, significantly boosting revenue and ensuring better earnings for hospitality workers and local businesses.
“Tourism is life, and when tourism thrives, the economy grows. Groovy December will stimulate economic activities across Abuja from transport operators to artisans and vendors ensuring that residents also benefit from the festivities.” The Coordinator of the Emerging Abuja Projects stated.
Dr. Ibe-Kalu who confirmed that all necessary structures are in place for a smooth experience stressed that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium has been approved as one of the main venues, while the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has granted approval for Groovy December information desks at four major airports across Nigeria to assist travelers arriving for the event.
He explained that Security agencies are also fully engaged to guarantee safety throughout the duration of the festival.
According to him, beyond the full backing of the FCTA through the Social Development Secretariat and Women Affairs Secretariat, Groovy December has also received support from the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and the Creative Economy, as well as its agencies including the NTDC and NTDA.
“In addition, leading private sector brands such as Peak Milk have joined as official partners, alongside several others from the FMCG, entertainment, and hospitality sectors.

Dr. Ibe-Kalu emphasized that Groovy December 2025 is more than a festival noting that it’s the launchpad for Abuja’s long-term tourism transformation.
“This is our test run, and we’re confident it will become a global annual attraction. Abuja is ready, and the world is invited to experience the Groovy side of the capital this December.” he emphasized.
Groovy December is an initiative of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to rebrand Abuja as a premier tourism and cultural destination.
The 17-day tourism and entertainment fiesta is scheduled to hold from December 15 to 31, 2025.
