Government at all levels, organizations and individuals have been urged to accelerate action towards achieving gender equality.
Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists,NAWOJ,Kogi State chapter, Comrade Stella Edoka made the call in a statement to mark this year’s International Women’s day.
She emphasised the need for swift and decisive steps to address the lingering challenges faced by women and girls.
According to Edoka, despite the progress made, women and girls continue to face discrimination, violence and marginalisation in various aspects of life.
She reiterated the association’s commitment to advocating for policies that would help promote gender equality and empower women to reach their full potential.
The chairperson charged relevant stakeholders on the need to work together to create a world where women and girls have equal rights, opportunities, and freedom so they can thrive, contribute, and reach their full potential.
She also added that this year’s theme, Accelerate Action, underscores the urgency of promoting women’s leadership, addressing gender based violence, and ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
