Borno State Acting Governor, Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur, has flagged off the distribution of Presidential Emergency Food and Nutrition items to vulnerable households across the state.
The programme, part of the Federal Government’s humanitarian response to food insecurity and malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, aims to support displaced persons, children, pregnant women, and the elderly affected by conflict and economic hardship.

Speaking at Ramat Square, Maiduguri, Dr. Kadafur described the intervention as timely and critical for easing suffering, while assuring that distribution will be carried out transparently and fairly.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, said the initiative covers ten of the most affected states, including Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi.

The Federal Government has mobilised food, nutrition, and medical items, including rice, beans, millet, maize, cooking oil, fortified supplements, and essential medicines.
Dr. Doro noted that the intervention is not only emergency relief but a strategic effort to protect lives, restore dignity, and support long-term resilience and local food production.
He commended Borno State for its collaboration, alongside security agencies, community leaders, development partners, and frontline workers.

The flag-off ceremony featured a symbolic presentation of items to beneficiaries and was attended by top state and federal officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners, and the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
