Women in Adamawa State have been urged to unite in support of the proposed Special Seats Bill aimed at increasing women’s representation in political leadership.
The Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in the state, Felicia Amos Dauda, made the call in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Yola while marking the 2026 International Women’s Day.
She noted that women remain vital to leadership and governance, stressing that meaningful progress can only be achieved when women support one another and participate actively in politics.
Mrs. Dauda also highlighted systemic barriers that limit women’s political participation and called for deliberate government policies that will create an enabling environment for women to aspire to leadership positions.
She expressed optimism that women would play greater roles in future political contests, noting that inclusive governance is essential for sustainable development.
Some women who spoke on the significance of the day also emphasized the need for increased awareness of women’s rights and the importance of empowering women and girls to contribute meaningfully to society.
