The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has dismissed concerns that the recent court ruling on the leadership of the Labour Party could weaken the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party says the judgment affirming Senator Nenadi Usman as Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party will not affect the alliance formed to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ruling does not in any way threaten the unity or direction of the coalition.
He also played down speculations that the court decision and the recognition of Senator Nenadi Usman by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, could lead to the return of former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, to the Labour Party.
Mallam Abdullahi noted that Mr Obi has openly declared his political alignment with the ADC, stressing that both Obi and Senator Usman have been active and committed members of the coalition from the beginning.
According to him, the judgment only strengthens the coalition rather than weaken it.
It would be recalled that Mr Peter Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election, left the Labour Party following prolonged leadership disputes and conflicting court rulings within the party.
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja has removed the Julius Abure-led executive of the Labour Party, ruling that his tenure as national chairman had expired, and that the evidence before the court supported the decision.
