The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to postpone the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections scheduled for Saturday, 21 February 2026.
In a letter dated 22 January 2026, signed by ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark and National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the party noted that the current date coincides with the Ramadan fast, observed by a significant portion of voters.
The ADC emphasized that holding the elections during this period could affect voter participation and inclusivity.
The party asked INEC to reschedule the polls to a date after Ramadan and pledged to follow all procedural requirements in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
ADC stressed that its request reflects a commitment to ensuring broad participation and reinforcing public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
