An Islamic cleric, Zainu Mada, has been killed by bandits in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, despite the payment of ransom by his family.
The cleric was abducted along the Kotorkoshi–Mada road and later killed after the assailants collected two million naira, a motorcycle, and recharge cards.
Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, Abubakar Imam, condemned the killing during a condolence visit to the family, where he prayed for the repose of the cleric’s soul.
Mada was buried in his hometown on Thursday evening amid large turnout of mourners.
Residents say the area has suffered repeated bandit attacks linked to commercial activities, with lives lost and huge sums paid as ransom.
The state police command was unavailable for comment as of the time of this report.
