Police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with a bomb scare at the State Secretariat in Yenagoa on Wednesday morning.
Reports say civil servants and visitors were evacuated after an unidentified protester claimed explosives had been planted in the complex.

The Bayelsa State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Mr. Iyamah Edobor, swiftly deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Special Drone Unit, and tactical teams to the scene.
Upon detailed inspection, the police confirmed that the suspected explosives were low-capacity firecrackers and one unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which was safely rendered harmless.

No lives were lost, and no property was damaged.
The suspect, identified as Pentecost Elijah from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

He is expected to be charged to court following completion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Head of Civil Service directed workers to suspend operations for the day as a precaution, while security agencies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
