The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Northern Nigeria, Reverend Joseph John Hayab, has criticised the initial denial by government and security agencies over the abduction of worshippers in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Reverend Hayab described the denial as surprising and misleading, saying he personally confirmed the incident through multiple sources, including local CAN officials, before authorities dismissed the reports.
He expressed concern over what he called attempts to discredit CAN, insisting that the focus should be on rescuing the abducted worshippers rather than arguing over figures or narratives.
According to him, the attack on the predominantly Christian community was deliberate, aimed at instilling fear, provoking tension and exploiting the government’s slow response to insecurity.
Hayab said security agencies have since acknowledged the incident and assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of those still in captivity.
He called on the federal and Kaduna State governments to demonstrate the presence of authority by taking decisive action against bandits and protecting citizens, regardless of religion.
