The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State Chapter, Most Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish a fully equipped military base in Agwara Local Government Area.
Most Rev. Yohanna who stated this during a media Parley with newsmen in Suleja Local Government Area stressed that the proposed base will include mobile and armoured detachments capable of pursuing and neutralizing bandits who frequently operate from hideouts in the nearby game reserve.
He urged the Federal Government to deploy additional security personnel and resources to combat the rising insecurity.
He stressed the need for better-equipped police stations, especially in Agwara, and the posting of more officers with vehicular mobility to enhance their response to the growing threats.
Also the son of the late Emir of Borgu, Prince Murtala Haliru Dantoro, appealed to President Tinubu, to act urgently to protect the Borgu and Agwara communities, which have suffered extensive losses at the hands of bandits.
He highlighted the deaths of over 300 people and the destruction of properties, while stressing the importance of President Tinubu’s title of Jagaban Borgu, which he said signified a sacred bond between the president and the people of Borgu Emirate.
The Muslim Community representative, Mohammed Ibrahim Sani, echoed concerns about the devastating impact of banditry on the region, noting that education, agriculture, and local livelihoods have been crippled as terrorists move freely through the area.
