Over 3,000 Women and Young Girls have received a step down training from Care International in collaboration with Women Lead In Emergency WLiE, EYN Project and Yobe State Ministry for Women Affairs, with funding from Foreign Commonwealth Development Office FCDO.
The State Co-ordinator, Care international Mrs Wandu Zira George made this known during a Trade Fair Exhibition, organized to showcase products, locally produced by women entrepreneurs as part of activities to commemorate the 2025 international women’s Day in Potiskum, Yobe State.
George said the women empowerment program is aimed at strengthening the degree of production and services, and increase women’s voice and participation in humanitarian response circles, through coordinated, integrated and local led approach in the Northeastern part of the country, specifically in Yobe.
Mrs George explained the pilot program targets Gujba and Potiskum Local Government Areas, with the integration of Traditional/Religious leaders, Local Government Administration and other developmental partners.
She noted that the activities conducted and the theory of theme carried out include; Strengthening Coordination Services, Supports Survivors of Gender-Based Violence to recover Physically, Psychologically and Economically, Provide Healthcare, Counselling and Livelihoods support to help women, rebuild their lives.
The Chairman Potiskum Local Government Council, Alh. Salisu Muntari said, more is needed to be done to empower women/girls considering the availability of resources.
Represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Hamza Ngojin, the Chairman commended Care international, EYN Project and other developmental partners for supporting more women in Potiskum and the State at large.
He said the present administration of governor Mai Mala Buni is also interested in women and girl child empowerment, and so far the products produced have since been taken to market for onward sale.
In a interview with newsmen, the GBV and Protection Officer Care International, Grace Amos Chudule explained that the event is organized to celebrate achievements of women at the community, entrepreneurship and stakeholders level to accelerate action and support women.
She said the trade fair was organized to have a market linkage between prospective costumer and investors, to support the women who enrolled into different skills acquisition programs through the exhibition and sales of their products
Chudule revealed that over 500 Women have received step down training in Potiskum and Care International is working in collaboration with the local authority for effective services delivery
