The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Engagement, Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo, says thirty-eight students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, arrested in connection with the recent protest in the town, will be released shortly.
This is contained in a statement signed by him in Abuja.
The statement notes that the development followed timely and constructive interventions by the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayo Olawande.
Others are the Edo State Commissioner for Education, the Students’ Union Government President of Ambrose Alli University as well as the sustained efforts of the comrade community.
According to the statement, the intervention reflects the commitment of the government and relevant stakeholders to dialogue, following due process for the welfare of students.
It adds that the peaceful resolution of the matter is a demonstration of responsive leadership and concern for youth development.
