The corruption and bribery trial of former Nigerian Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has resumed at Southwark Crown Court in London.
Alison-Madueke, who served as Nigeria’s oil minister between 2011 and 2015 and was also the first female OPEC president, denies multiple charges of receiving cash, luxury gifts, private jet flights, and other benefits in exchange for influence over energy contracts.
Prosecutors allege that she accepted bribes linked to contracts with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and companies such as Atlantic Energy and SPOG Petrochemical.
Her brother, Doye Agama, and Olatimbo Ayinde are co-defendants in the case.
Her defence team argued that key evidence from Nigeria, including documents proving reimbursements and lawful transactions, is no longer available, citing delays and restrictions on her travel as obstacles to preparing a proper defence.
The trial, which has drawn global attention, underscores ongoing efforts to ensure accountability in the international oil and gas sector.
