The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has initiated contempt proceedings against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged disobedience of a court order.
Justice Alexander Owoeye ordered that Forms 48 and 49 be issued and served on the IGP.
The forms serve as a notice of alleged contempt and require the police chief to show cause why he should not be sanctioned for failing to comply with judicial directives.
The order followed an ex parte application filed by counsel, Kola Sodiya, on behalf of a Lagos-based businesswoman, Mrs. Mabel Alabijah Hussein.
Due to the difficulty of personal service on the Inspector General of Police, the court granted substituted service.
The documents are to be served through the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Legal Department at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The case, marked FHC/L/CS/1468/2025, stems from an earlier ruling delivered on October 9, 2025, in which the court restrained the IGP and eight other respondents, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, senior police officers, and a real estate firm, from taking further action against the applicant.
The court had directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of a fundamental rights enforcement suit.
