The Cross River State Government has warned that it will prosecute any public official found guilty of money laundering, terrorism financing, or other financial crimes.
The warning was issued by Governor Bassey Otu while opening a two-day Strategic Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Workshop in Calabar for senior government officials.
Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, the governor described the training as strategic and timely, aimed at strengthening financial prudence and governance in the state.
Governor Otu emphasized his administration’s zero tolerance for fraud and urged participants to apply the lessons learned and share them with colleagues at the local government level.
The workshop, organized through the State Planning Commission, brought together top public officers from ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance their skills in detecting and preventing financial crimes, strengthening procurement transparency, and aligning state practices with national and international standards.
The training is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce accountability, safeguard public resources, and boost investor confidence in Cross River State.
